A weather map is an everyday tool for most of us. But the science which makes it possible, is anything but everyday. It requires the talented minds of a lot competent scientists – like the ones at the ECWMF. The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECWMF) is the global market leader in numerical weather forecasts. They always look for better ways to forecast the weather. We present such weather experts in our new video.
The alarm goes off every morning – sometimes even for satellites. The ESA (European Space Agency) satellite Rosetta has gone into deep-space hibernation on its way to a comet for over three years. On January the 20th 2014 at 10am GMT, its systems will wake up again – right on time to prepare for its destination and the related comet’s examination. Speaking of waking up – we produced a teaser-video for the social media campaign of ESA, which will arouse even the late riser. #WakeUpRosetta.
World Space Week takes place from 4th-10th of October. Its topics are the exploration of Mars and Earth observations. It will be a fascinating week. We filmed ESA-Astronaut Pedro Duque for a message to the participants of World Space Week.
The question how Earth can be saved from asteroid impact is not a trivial one. This is why it’s understandable that a room full of experts is necessary to solve these problems. The Concurrent Design Facility (CDF) is perfectly designed for solving such challenges. We visited the CDF and filmed over the working specialists’ shoulders.
The Sun, the Moon and the stars have been a concept in people’s minds for millennia – even when the believed to be living on a flat disk. Science has uncovered many mysteries of space. But how about knowledge of the stars? Design & Data asked this question in Europe’s streets.
“Dein Spiegel” is a magazine for children. The topics featured are as diverse as those in “Der Spiegel” for adults. On the DVD enclosed in the new issue 10/2012 “Adventures in Space” many questions are answered in simple words and images. For this DVD, we have researched the most suitable video material from the archives of ESA.
For the German Space Exhibition in Morgenröthe-Rautenkranz, Design & Data created a 30-minute film documentary about the International Space Station ISS.
It shows the elaborate preparations necessary for the start of a carrier rocket, the astronauts‘ training and their daily life in space. All of this shown with exciting, fascinating video footage from the ESA archive.
We are currently producing a 10-part web video series for ESA. In each episode of this series, we ask one knowledge question on the topic of outer space. In the two-minute films of the series we ask one question each. Then, we show different people stating their opinion. Afterwards, we answer the question correctly and explain it. It’s fun watching the people answering, because you are sure you wouldn’t know the answer either in front of a camera.
