Challenge

Destination Earth, also known as DestinE, is a groundbreaking initiative from the European Commission conceived with the interest of developing highly accurate digital models of the Earth system, to support climate change adaptation policies and decision-making for reducing the impact of extreme events.

The challenge for Design & Data was to develop a series of effective and captivating Capsule Videos to communicate the complex concepts and goals of the DestinE project to a wider audience. These videos needed to simplify and convey the intricate and technical aspects of the project’s digital Earth models, known as Digital Twins.

Idea, solution

Leveraging our expertise in green screen recording and video animation, we developed a unique concept for the Capsule Videos, where experts interact with motion graphics on screen to present complex ideas more engagingly. High-quality videography, meticulous lighting, and expert direction ensured professional interviews, while efficient crew management maintained a smooth filming process. In post-production, we matched sound, edited footage into a cohesive narrative, and added custom motion graphics aligned with DestinE’s style. Finally, sound effects and music were carefully integrated to complete the production of these visually compelling and informative videos.

Result

The result in the end is the successful production of 14 high-quality educational and entertaining videos that effectively explain complex topics, ranging from machine learning and supercomputers to satellite observations and climate adaptation, in an accessible and visually engaging way.

By focusing on speakers with diverse backgrounds and specialties, the videos strategically put a face to the many people working on the DestinE project, humanizing the initiative and making it more relatable.
