Challenge
ECMWF wanted to communicate the significance of its involvement in the DestinE initiative—an ambitious project focused on creating digital twins of Earth to revolutionize weather prediction—through the power of a podcast. This approach should enhance audience engagement, broaden awareness of ECMWF’s mission, and position the podcast as an effective communication tool for showcasing DestinE’s impact on the future of digital Earth twins and weather prediction.
Design & Data faced the challenge of translating the highly complex and technical nature of the DestinE initiative into a podcast format that is both engaging and accessible.
Design & Data also faced the challenge of structuring discussions in a way that maintain listener engagement while accurately representing the initiative’s significance.
Idea, solution
The aim of balancing the delivery of in-depth scientific insights for a wider audience with raising awareness for the initiative required a strategic approach. Design & Data developed a comprehensive concept that included the establishment of robust branding and the creation of a distinctive audio identity to enhance the podcast’s visibility and overall appeal.
To ensure that complex topics were made accessible without oversimplifying their significance and to engage listeners while effectively conveying the complexity and impact of the DestinE initiative, a roundtable format was adopted. This format facilitated in-depth discussions among multiple experts from ECMWF and other sectors, providing both technical insights and broader perspectives.
Result
The ECMWF podcast on the DestinE initiative serves as an engaging and informative platform, bridging the gap between complex scientific advancements and public understanding. By not only translating technical subjects into accessible discussions but also incorporating social and innovative perspectives, the podcast provides listeners with a well-rounded understanding of the initiative.
