Challenge
The SEED-FD (Strengthening Extreme Events Detection for Floods and Droughts) project, supported by the European Commission under Horizon Europe, is tackling this challenge head-on. The project’s goal is to enhance the accuracy and global applicability of flood and drought forecasting, helping vulnerable regions better prepare for and respond to extreme hydrological events. As a member of the consortium and the lead for Communication, Exploitation & Dissemination, the Design & Data team is responsible for translating complex technical research into engaging and accessible content to ensure that the project’s results, products, and insights effectively reach and engage the appropriate stakeholders.
Idea, solution
The Design & Data team employs a strategic and multi-channel communication approach to effectively disseminate SEED-FD’s research and results. The work began with the development of a comprehensive communication strategy, ensuring that key messages are clear, engaging, and accessible to stakeholders across Europe and beyond.
A crucial aspect of this approach is the creation of high-quality communication materials that effectively convey the project’s insights. This includes designing visually compelling content, establishing a strong visual identity with elements such as a logo, slogan, infographics, and a brand manual, and providing essential communication tools such as PowerPoint and Word templates and an informational flyer. To maximize visibility and impact, a strategic dissemination plan across multiple online channels was implemented.
But Design & Data worked not only on the external impact of the project but also provided significant support within the consortium. The team prepared and conducted a structured workshop, inspired by the Design Sprint methodology, to foster creative problem-solving and strategic planning. This workshop offered consortium members a dedicated space and time to engage in in-depth discussions, address challenges, and collaboratively develop solutions.
Result
A dedicated website serves as a central communication hub, while social media campaigns and regular updates on LinkedIn and X help raise awareness and maintain engagement with stakeholders.
Through its structured and interactive approach, the workshop helped to align the team’s vision, streamline workflows, and enhance the overall efficiency of the project. Ultimately, it played a crucial role in strengthening team dynamics, ensuring that all stakeholders were actively involved in shaping the project’s direction and future success.
All in all the communication activities led by the Design & Data team have resulted in enhanced visibility, engagement, and impact for SEED-FD. By implementing a clear, engaging, and strategic approach, the agency has successfully ensured that the project’s findings reach the right stakeholders, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing within the scientific community and beyond. Additionally, by ensuring that research outcomes are widely accessible and effectively disseminated, the project is well-positioned for long-term impact and future exploitation.
