Challenge
The challenge was to create a documentary on the history of German human spaceflight that exudes a cinematic quality. It needed to provide comprehensive explanations without resorting to technical jargon. Furthermore, the topics of sustainability and climate change had to be incorporated without evoking negative emotions.
Idea, solution
To address this challenge, we employed a multifaceted approach. We enriched the rocket launch sequences with dramatic sound effects, used composed music to evoke emotions during the stunning space footage, and conveyed information through custom-made animated graphics.
In addition, we conducted interviews of our own and applied various filmmaking techniques such as match-cuts and collages. The use of 5.1 surround sound further heightened the cinematic experience. The documentary culminated with an emotional conclusion that focused on the future of space exploration.
Result
In summary, we successfully delivered half an hour of captivating entertainment that authentically embodied the essence of the film’s title: “Dream job astronaut.”
