Challenge
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Paris-based space industry consultancy, Euroconsult, urgently needed to switch their physical summit to an online platform. The challenge laid in creating a complex virtual event in under six weeks. With high stakes, the premium event featured speakers and key executives from SpaceX, Blue Origin, Airbus, Arianespace, SES and Viasat, among others. Therefore, the exclusive audience of industry leaders expected the highest quality product and user experience complete with interactive tools that would allow them to interact with the speakers. This involved new levels of complexity for a virtual event and raised many technical challenges that had to be overcome.
Idea, solution
To smoothly host an event of this size and importance, Design & Data upgraded their technical infrastructure and ran two parallel web streams over three consecutive days.
For excellent audio-visual quality with 3 x 10 gigabit of uplink and downlink, the Design & Data network was connected directly to the telecommunications infrastructure. To comfortably handle both streams, present graphics, and offer flexibility in viewing the speakers, the agency also expanded their data centre to thirty computers. For front-facing content, Design & Data’s multidisciplinary team produced the graphics, provided coaching to presenters, and directed pre-recorded programme segments.
Result
Each day delivered twelve hours of continuous streaming, allowing a large and varied audience to interact and communicate with the panelists, speakers, and presenters. All the major panels were streamed live, and access to the stream was provided via a dedicated event platform, making it was possible to view all the speakers at the same
time and watch top quality video and animated graphics. By upgrading its technical infrastructure, Design & Data leads ahead of the current market standard in terms of streaming quality and complexity, easily able to incorporate graphical elements, sponsor rolls, corporate branding, and flexible speaker views.
