For EUMETSAT we produced a series of documentary videos on what it’s like to work at its headquarters in Darmstadt. As it prepares a recruitment drive, the videos were used to attract young people to its Early Career Programme and give audiences an insight to its unique and friendly working environment.
EUMETSAT has been working with different partners to review its recruitment campaign. It took a deeper look at its population of employees and succession planning and defined the goal to increase awareness among young people of the jobs it offers.
We were commissioned to highlight the sorts of career opportunities on offer at EUMETSAT and to capture the great atmosphere at this international organisation based in Darmstadt, which allows for a great work-life balance.
Different approaches were considered in the video style. The videos needed to be personal and not so corporate in nature. They needed to be camera friendly with a good gender balance between men and women. We tried to capture the international environment through a mix of different portrayed nationalities, as well as the very personal messages from current employees who shared their experiences, while avoiding long monologue testimonials.
The biggest challenge when shooting was the length of shooting. We knew we had to film a lot of material on site in a short time, meaning we had to meticulously plan logistics between interviews and everyday work scenes. As we wanted a personalised feel, we wanted to capture each interview partner in his or her real-life office environment. We framed the employees’ hobbies to tie into weather and satellite data to enable interaction between the people and their work, through relatable scenarios rather than narrated pieces.
Published through EUMETSAT’s media channels the resulting videos have already proven very popular and have received positive comments. We are sure these videos will contribute towards attracting the next generation of talented scientists and engineers from EUMETSAT’s member states.
