The first full-dome feature film produced by Design & Data, based on the ESA cartoon series
’The Adventures of Rosetta & Philae’, is available for watch in planetaria worldwide.
Challenge
Following the success of the ESA animated video series, The Adventures of Rosetta & Philae, producer Design & Data wanted to develop a full animated movie able to be shown in planetaria with the aim of inspiring young generations about space and to explore the universe.
Idea, solution
The film follows the story of Rosetta and her lander Philae as they conduct their over ten-year journey to the comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko. Using specially prepared 3D projections, 2K and 4K quality graphics, and Audio 5.1 surround sound, the film was adapted to be shown in a planetarium setting. Production was initiated by the Verkehrshaus der Schweiz (Museum of Transport Planetarium) in Luzern Switzerland and involved 18 other planetaria including Berlin, Prague, Singapore, Vienna, and others from seven different countries.
Result
The 26 minute 30 second film was distributed by Design & Data and brought to full dome with the support of the Swiss Space Office. Available in German, English, French, Italian, and Spanish, a full-dome package and full HD trailer are available for licensing worldwide by interested planetaria.
